Die Föderation für Weltfrieden ist das österreichische Pendant zur „Universal Peace Federation“ (UPF) früher „Interreligious and International Federation for World Peace“, einer weltweiten, gemeinnützigen Organisation, die der Friedensbildung durch Erziehungsprogramme, Workshops, Konferenzen und Veröffentlichungen gewidmet ist. Diese Friedensföderation wurde am 6. Februar 1999 in Seoul, Korea von Rev. Dr. Sun Myung Moon und seiner Frau gegründet.

UPF ist eine NGO in Special Consultative Status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations.

Die Föderation für Weltfrieden wendet sich in ihren Tätigkeiten den Herausforderungen unserer Gesellschaft in einer globalisierten Welt zu:

Die Forschung nach Ursachen des Krieges und Rahmenbedingungen des Friedens:Ein besonderer Aspekt der „Föderation für Weltfrieden“ ist die Einbeziehung der Repräsentanten der Weltreligionen, welche die Weisheit ihrer Traditionen verkörpern. Dieses Zurückgreifen auf deren Potential soll in seinem Ansatz völlig interreligiös sein. Mit der Errichtung eines „Interreligiösen Friedensrates“ auf nationaler, regionaler und lokaler Ebene können sich Vertreter aller Religionen in den Friedensprozess einbringen.

Die Stärkung und Förderung der Familie als Keimzelle des Friedens.

Die Ernennung zum „Ambassador for Peace“: Die „Föderation für Weltfrieden“ würdigt Menschen, deren Leben aufgrund ihrer Dienste an ihrer Nation, ihrer Gemeinde bzw. ihren Mitmenschen beispielhaft ist, mit dieser Auszeichnung.

UPF entstand aus einem Netzwerk von wissenschaftlich interdisziplinären, interreligiösen und internationalen Institutionen:

Die Interreligious Federation for World Peace veranstaltet seit über 20 Jahren Konferenzen und Bildungsprogramme in aller Welt, um den Frieden zwischen und unter den Religionen durch Begegnungstreffen, durch intensiven Dialog mit weltweit allen religiösen Strömungen und durch interreligiöse Kooperation auf Sachebenen zu verbessern.

Das Summit Council for World Peace, gegründet 1981, ist ein Weltforum für amtierende und ehemalige Staatsoberhäupter, für hochrangige Persönlichkeiten des öffentlichen Lebens und für politische Entscheidungsträger. Ziel dieses Forums ist die Erörterung globaler Probleme und die Suche nach Lösungen im sozialen, wirtschaftlichen und politischen Bereich.

Zu nennen sind auch das IRFF, eine NGO der Vereinten Nationen, die sich vor allem den Menschen in den armen Ländern zuwendet. Des weiteren das Religious Youth Service, das die Jugend aus verschiedensten religiösen Traditionen durch gemeinsame Reisen und Projekte zu gegenseitiger Akzeptanz, Toleranz und gemeinsamen karitativen Aktivitäten inspiriert.

Statement of Purpose

Building on the work of diverse organizations, UPF was founded to help coordinate a wide range of activities, creating a coalition of organizations and activities that together work to establish peace throughout the world.

Of particular importance to UPF is cooperation with other significant international organizations, especially the United Nations. It is hoped that, by bringing religious leaders and other non-governmental leaders into closer collaboration, not merely as advisors but as partners with the representatives of sovereign nations, the way to peace will be both smoother and swifter. Much wisdom, indeed power, is vested in extra-political institutions, UPF seeks to harness that power and to promote reforms within the United Nations that reflect that vision.

UPF is a worldwide, not-for-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of world peace through education programs, workshops, conferences, and publications. UPF seeks to encourage and support the efforts of world leaders from all disciplines and to build coalitions among a wide range of non-governmental, religious, cultural, and educational institutions in advancing solutions to pressing world problems.

Of particular concern to UPF are two serious and growing problems. The first revolves around family instability and breakdown and the serious social, economic, and cultural problems that the family’s decline generates. The second concerns the growing ethnic, racial, and religious intolerance in all parts of the world. There is a critical need, in our opinion, for political, religious, and educational institutions to work together more vigorously, not only to reverse the decline in the socially nourishing functions of the family, but also to promote greater understanding and collaboration among diverse ethnic, racial, and religious communities for the common well-being of humanity.

UPF supports the mission of the United Nations in pursuing peace, reconciliation, and human welfare. UPF intends to actively collaborate with the United Nations and other international and regional organizations similarly dedicated to the cause of achieving justice, world peace, and human prosperity.

UPF is a global alliance of individuals and organizations dedicated to building a world of peace in which we live in freedom, harmony, cooperation and co-prosperity for all. UPF is guided by a vision of humanity as one global family of God, living in accordance with universal principles.
